Adam B. Weiner, MD
Why I'm asking

A note from Dr. Weiner

Federal grants are essential, but they are slow and conservative by design. The most promising ideas in my lab — the ones most likely to change how prostate cancer is treated — are early-stage and don't fit a grant cycle yet. Philanthropy is what gets those ideas off the ground.

Every gift, at every size, goes directly into the science. Thank you for considering it.

What we are working on

Three lines of research, one goal

Every project in this lab is aimed at a single question: how do we get every man with prostate cancer the right treatment at the right time?

01

Designing new targeted drugs

Prostate cancer cells differ from healthy cells in specific, exploitable ways. Our lab is designing a new generation of targeted therapies that attack cancer cells while leaving healthy tissue alone, aiming for treatments that are more effective and easier on patients.

02

PSMA PET as a treatment roadmap

Thousands of prostate cancer patients get PSMA PET scans each year, but not every cancer lights up on these scans. We are studying what PET visibility reveals about a tumor's biology and which treatments will work best for each patient.

03

How cancer evolves after treatment

Prostate cancer changes after treatment, and those changes are often what allow it to come back. By mapping how tumors evolve, we are identifying the vulnerabilities that can be targeted to stop recurrence before it starts.

Where your gift goes

What your dollar buys

Concrete impact, not overhead. Gifts at every level move specific work forward.

$

$500

One week of PSMA PET data analysis

Funds the computing time and analyst hours to extract one patient's molecular imaging signature.

$

$5,000

One month of a graduate student

Covers stipend, benefits, and lab supplies for the trainees who do the hands-on experiments.

$

$25,000

A pilot study from concept to abstract

Bridges the gap between an idea and the preliminary data needed to compete for an NIH or DoD grant.

2024–2025 impact

What last year's gifts made possible

Philanthropic support from anonymous donors over the last year allowed us to launch a new experiment testing a targeted therapy for prostate cancer designed to personalize care to each patient's tumor biology. This is the kind of early-stage, high-conviction work that grants do not yet fund. Your gifts made it possible.

Current funders

You would be in good company

The lab's research is competitively funded by the field's most respected organizations. Philanthropic gifts ride alongside this support and unlock the early-stage ideas grants cannot reach.

Donor FAQ

Common questions

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization (Tax ID 95-1644600), and gifts are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Can I direct my gift specifically to Dr. Weiner's lab?

Yes. On the Cedars-Sinai online giving form, type "Adam Weiner research" in the comment box at checkout. This routes your gift to Dr. Weiner's lab within the Department of Urology. For larger gifts, the philanthropy team can set up a designated fund or formal pledge. Email Pranav.Movva@cshs.org for help.

What percentage of my gift supports research directly?

Cedars-Sinai applies a modest gift administration fee. The substantial majority of every gift directly supports the research designated by the donor.

Can I make a multi-year pledge?

Yes. Many donors find a multi-year commitment a meaningful way to support sustained research. Our team will work with you on a payment schedule that fits.

What recognition is available?

Recognition options range from acknowledgment in lab communications to named research funds and endowed programs, depending on gift level and donor preference. Anonymous giving is always welcome.
